(Sigh)
Like pretty much everyone else on the planet, we are ‘obliged’ to demonstrate how we are meeting GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requirements – a new European Union data protection law that took effect May 25, 2018.
So we encourage you to read this Privacy Policy carefully before you start to use our Website (and here comes the stern warning). By using the website you agree to be bound and abide by the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the Privacy Policy, you must not access or use the website. So there. 🙂
About us
Katwerx is just a little business that takes care of kitties. We operate at this website address www.katwerx.com . Unlike all the evil Disney cats you may have known, we’re not about getting into any mischief like stealing your identity or misusing any personal information. We’re the good , or at least harmless, cats.
What data we collect and what we do with it.
Cookies
For the curious, cookies are tiny files that are downloaded to your computer, to improve your online experience, and pretty much every website has them. If you’re having trouble falling asleep, try reading our full cookie policy here.
Website tracking
Our website uses Google Analytics which is one of the most widespread and trusted analytics solutions on the web for helping us to understand how you use the site and how we can make it even better so you’ll stick around. These cookies may track things such as how long you spend on the site and the pages that you visit, so we can produce engaging content. For more information on Google Analytics cookies, see the official Google Analytics website. You can view their privacy policy here https://policies.google.com/privacy . Don’t be too concerned though, we barely have any time to look at what our Google analytics are telling us because we’re so busy scooping your cat’s poop.
Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, blog posts etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We can’t control them. They need their own GDPR-friendly Privacy Policy.
Data Collection
Data is the whole driver for this GDPR panic. Obviously we need client data too. Here’s what we do and don’t keep.
Our website: We don’t have an opt-in on our website so we are not gathering or storing names or email addresses with our site. Neither do we sell anything on our site so your payment details are NEVER held on our website. The only thing we do is post client ‘photos’ which we have permission to do. We’ve already said we’re too busy to stare at the visitor statistics Google Analytics collects for us, which is the only data we might gather on our site.
Even more security stuff: Our website is protected by an SSL certificate (https), two-factor authentication as well as WP Security and Wordfence plugins. It is regularly swept for malware and consistently updates its plugins and themes. We receive weekly reports of all attempted logins and access. No customer data is stored directly on this website; however, WordPress provides data erasure if needed. We do not import SEO data into this website but maintain SEO data using only Google Analytics.
Mailchimp. The only email addresses we collect are from clients who have a signed contract with us, and only for the purpose of communicating. We like to use Mailchimp for our emails or newsletters because it’s efficient, and, because it looks nice. Mailchimp keeps your name and email address all nice and secure (they say they’re GDPR compliant too). However, if you’re tired of hearing from us, you can always unsubscribe from our emails at any time just by using the unsubscribe feature … but then you’d be missing our cool updates!
Time to Pet. Our internal scheduling and client management application is called Time to Pet. It’s how we keep track of all those cats and their special preferences! It also keeps us organized so we know where to go every day. Because it is only accessed by us and is not a marketing tool, it’s not impacted by GDPR (to our knowledge).
Your Secret Payment Info
Most of our clients pay for their services via bank transfers, cash or cheques. We use Square to accept credit card payments as well as PayPal. Both companies have updated their Privacy Policies (as far as we can tell), to respond to GDPR requirements. We do not hold any payment information or statistics on our website – never ever.
The Fun Stuff – Social Media
We use social media mostly to share tips, news about events and most importantly, funny cat photos. We are not using Facebook pixels or other marketing tools to sell anything to you. No one is obliged to follow our social media accounts and our feelings won’t be hurt if you stop.
